The Greatest Fishing Holes
The College Campus
We started the Project Truth Spring Tour traveling through the snow over the Grapevine into Southern California, hooking up with the GAP team whose display is powerful and effective. We first set up on the Cal State Fullerton campus right near Disneyland; then onto the U.C. Irvine campus in Newport Beach. They say U.C. Irvine is one of the top ten colleges in America. It is also the university where they do research on aborted baby parts through stem cell research and fetal tissues.

Snow on the I-5 Grapevine. The freeway was closed after we drove through. Those of you who live in California know how rare this is...caused by " global warming."
Competing with the UC Santa Cruz mascot, which is the Banana Slug, the U.C. Irvine mascot is the Anteater. Odd mascots here in California.
Speaking of odd, we were met at Delta College by protesting Wiccan worshipers. Their coven walked around doing chants from a little book they each carried. The leader, carrying the umbrella, was the one who two years ago tore up pages from the Bible and ate them in front of us. She did it again this past week. Most of them were not so chatty this year. Last time she and I had a long conversation over the Gospel. Her umbrella says "Believe in Yourself." Seems self defeating to proclaim that, while trusting in Satan to give "yourself " purpose and meaning.

One of our team members, Linda, spent over an hour dialoguing with one of the Wiccans, having a great witnessing encounter.
He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; for righteousness, but behold, a cry for help... Therefore Sheol has enlarged itself and opened its mouth beyond measure. ..But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God who is holy shall be hallowed in righteousness. Isaiah 5
We were in battle with the darkness and were surrounded with prayers from the prayer warriors who read this newsletter. We also had two pastors join us at Delta College, Dave, pictured above, from Big Valley Bible in Lodi and Brandon from Quail Lakes Baptist in Stockton. The Lord sent out the big swords for protection. He also had two InterVarsity students stop by and spend time praying for our team to be effective in the battle.
The short three-minute video on the right was captured after a student approached us on the campus to thank us for being at his college . As he shared his personal story of deep regret and redemption, I asked him if he would let us record it for all the world to hear. He agreed and Matt turned on the camera.

These two Cal State Fullerton students, above, began the conversation with "You're just an old white man. How do you think you have a say in this matter?"

I nicely pointed out that it was nine old white men who decided the Roe abortion decision in 1973. I then pointed out that Martin Luther King said that a better world must decide to judge someone by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.

To point out the color of my skin is racist and to point out my age is bigoted. Rather, we should discuss the issue of abortion because it is a human life issue, not a man/woman issue.

You see, these students live in an echo chamber and were just echoing the soundbites they had heard. God's Word says to "tear down their strongholds" and that's what our team does. Then we have a good conversation on the merits of abortion in a civil society. More and more our warriors are getting to the Gospel sooner in the conversations.

We ended the conversation with many pebbles in their shoes.
Recently retired husband and wife team, Lee and Linda, are dedicated believers, living out their faith in the "fields ripe unto harvest." We are blessed to have them on our team.
The first day on the U.C. Irvine campus many students were ready for a challenge. They got up close and started echoing their soundbites, only to be met by the truth. Some chose to spit on us and one threw eggs, along with violent threats and one destroyed sign. So much for tolerance and diversity of which we reminded them. Yet others thanked us for braving the elements of hatred and bringing to their liberal campus something they don't see.

One researcher from the fetal research department told us that he had been pro-abortion until after some time working at U.C. Irvine. He told us that he was now pro-life and was glad we were on his campus.
As a student bombarded John with questions, others listened to the reasoned truth. We are standing on a college campus where truth should be proclaimed so we can rescue young minds before they are polluted by wrong thinking.
Another dynamic duo is Ed and Donna. " Old white people" who love the lost and are changing hearts and minds for the cause of the kingdom at U.C. Irvine. Retired from secular work and back in ministry preparing for the eternal "retirement."
Matt Vaughn (below) and Hannah Wuehler (above) are warriors who deserve our prayers as they focus on reaching their generation with the truth. They are both very convincing messengers to the students every time they engage.
Someone said they may have seen Jesus, upper left photo, listening in on one of our conversations. Later we found out that the man is a teacher at U.C. Irvine and also wanted to have his class collect our literature so they could go through it in class. I reminded our team that the real Jesus is supposed to be directing all of our conversations and He wouldn't need a camera.

Also, the couple to the right of cowboy Matt in the photo is from England. Dan and Rebecca traveled here to spend some time with our team. They had stood with us in Ireland during the months before the fateful vote against the Irish babies last year. The English don't have the same free speech freedoms we have here.
We find Scriptures jumping off the pages as we look around at the thousands of college students lost in their own understanding or trusting in government institutions to guide them through life. It is so important to "go out into the walkways" and reach out to the crowds with God's Word.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
A professor at U.C. Irvine brought her class out to see our display and allow the students to ask questions. The teacher is in the grey coat. She told us she had each student take our brochure and they were going to go through it in class.

One of the questions a student asked was if we believe abortion should be banned in all circumstances. My answer somewhat surprised them, yet no student challenged my position after I explained the logic behind our views.

Abortion, by the popular definition, defined as the "deliberate and intentional destruction of a womb baby" is morally wrong and should be completely banned. I think the word abortion is recklessly used in dialogue, sometimes by the medical community.

Of course, the "what ifs" were asked by other students and I explained that in all "what if" situations "every effort must be made to protect both the woman and the womb baby. If there is danger to mother, and/or the baby, then the two lives can be separated, but every effort should be used to save them both after they are separated. A tubal or ectopic pregnancy is an example. The baby is removed from the tube and the doctor must try to save the baby. But if the technology is not such that you can save the baby and the baby dies, it will not be because the doctor or the mother intentionally tried to kill the baby.

This answer seems to satisfy most students as being the moral high ground, reasonable, and consistent with right thinking.
The Justice Ride Coming This Summer
On June 23-29 we are planning a week of outreach, i nviting high school through college age young people to travel with us to Southern California. Each day we will go onto the streets of Hollywood, Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Huntington Beach and other places to engage the tens of thousands of visitors to that area.

It will be a great week and is not for the timid. We will train you for the challenge. If you have a desire to be bold and want to build your faith in the trenches, then contact me for more information on this great event. You can check out a short clip from Created Equal of Ohio, who we are working with us to make the West Coast version of the Justice Ride a success.

“If sinners will be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies. And if they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go there unwarned and unprayed for.” Charles Spurgeon
